Events From Greece to Boorloo: Emily Tsokos Purtill presents "Matia"

Boffins is delighted to be the booksellers for a special evening with Emily Tsokos Purtill as she shares her debut novel, 'Matia', a powerful story about family, migration, and the memories we carry through food and culture.

Emily will be in conversation with writer and critic Nadia Heisler, whose own global background brings a fresh lens to this richly layered narrative, as they talk about identity, heritage, and storytelling.

After the talk, enjoy a taste of traditional Greek delicacies inspired by the book.

About the Book

Sia is a young Greek woman who has emigrated from Greece to Perth, Western Australia in 1945 for a better life. She carries with her four prophecies and four pieces of protective jewellery, matia, one for herself, her daughter, her granddaughter, and great-granddaughter. With a dooming prophecy hanging over each woman's head will their lives unfold as they want or are they chained to the fate that's been destined for them?

Spanning 125 years and three continents, Matia follows four generations of one family and their journey across the world.
