Boffins Books is delighted to be the bookseller at the Perth launch of Stories That Want To Be Told.
With award winning writer Hessom Razavi and journalist Victoria Laurie, they will talk about the book and the issues facing us as a community. With an eye on mentoring and collaboration, it will look at human rights, refugees, and freedom of expression in Australia today. This conversation will uplift you, make you think and challenge you to act, all with an eye on how we might make life better. The event will be facilitated by Robert Wood.
ABOUT HESSOM
Hessom Razavi is a writer and doctor. He was born in Iran in 1976. When he was seven, his family fled that country to escape political persecution. He grew up in Pakistan and the United Kingdom before migrating to Australia when he was thirteen. Hessom has visited Manus Island and Nauru in a medical capacity. He was awarded the Australian Books Review’s Behrouz Boochani Fellowship and writes poetry and essays, and he is currently working on his first collection. Hessom was mentored by Victoria for this project.
ABOUT VICTORIA
Victoria Laurie is an award-winning journalist. Her career began in ABC radio and TV current affairs, followed by print journalism for The Bulletin, The Australian newspaper, Weekend Magazine and other publications. She has been a Walkley Award finalist three times, is a recipient of an Equal Opportunity Media Award and numerous state awards. Victoria mentored Hessom for this project.
