Boffins Books is delighted to partner with FANE to present a livestream (online) evening of poetry with Margaret Atwood, celebrating the publication of her first collection of poems in over a decade, 'Dearly'. Join the beloved author of The Handmaid's Tale for readings and conversations, streamed live around the world.
Before she became one of the world's most important and loved novelists, Margaret Atwood was a poet.
Now - her first new poetry book in over a decade - 'Dearly' - brings together many of Margaret's most recognisable and celebrated themes; from minutely perfect descriptions of the natural world to startingly witty encounters with aliens, from pressing political issues to myth and legend.
To celebrate her latest publication, in an exclusive livestream, Margaret will be in conversation with Kirsty Wark with readings by Margaret and some very special guests - including actors Patterson Joseph and Elizabeth McGovern, opera singer Joshua Hopkins, singing a section from Songs for Murdered Sisters about the murder of his own sister, and poets Sarah Howe, (winner of the TS Eliot Prize) and Romalyne Ante.
By turns moving, playful and wise, the poems explored in this event reflect on absences and endings, ageing and retrospection, but also about gifts and renewals. Margaret and her guests will touch on bodies and minds in transition, as well as the everyday objects and rituals that embed us in the present. Werewolves, sirens and dreams make their appearance, as do various forms of animal life and fragments of our damaged environment.
With some enchanting readings, never-before-heard stories and fascinating conversations, all underpinned by Margaret's trademark insight, empathy and humour, this event will delight long-term readers and new fans alike.
Margaret Atwood is an award-winning Canadian poet, novelist and essayist known for books like 'The Handmaid’s Tale,' 'The Blind Assassin', and 'Oryx and Crake,' among an array of other works. She had twice been awarded the Man Booker Prize.
