Boffins Books, The City of Perth Library, the UWA Institute of Advanced Studies and Research at UWA are proud to present an author talk with Chris Ferrie as he speaks about Baby University and the importance of beginning education early for children.
When it comes to baby books, farm animals and construction equipment abound. But where are the board books about science and maths? In a world where toddlers operate smart phones and computers before they learn to walk, is it really too soon to teach them Newton’s three laws of motion or Einstein’s theory of general relativity?
Chris Ferrie’s Baby University series bring the most complex scientific ideas into an explanation that anyone can understand, including your three year old. Introducing babies to math and science promotes literacy in these subjects later in life when they encounter them in school. Ferrie is on a mission to treat babies like the geniuses they are.
At UWA our world-leading researchers tackle global, national and regional issues to make the world a better place. Discover other research impact events at research.uwa.edu.au

In Rocket Science for Babies, readers will learn about aerospace engineering, including the basics of hot lift and thrust that makes things fly. Quantum Physics for Babies and Newtonian Physics for Babies give simple introductions to the principles that give quantum physics and Newton’s laws of motion their names. All books approach the topic with a tounge-in-cheek sense of humour and enticing colourful illustrations set to inspire parents, educators and younger readers alike. In the ABCs series are ABCs of Sciences, ABCs of Mathematics, ABCs of Space, ABCs of Physics and more. 8 Little Planets will be the latest release in November.
