A YA feminist fantasy, full of romance, danger and courtly intrigue, from a dazzling debut writer.
For fans of Twin Crowns, and TikTok sensations The Woven Kingdom and To Kill a Kingdom.
Kalothia has grown up in the shadows of her kingdom, hidden away in the East after her parents were outed as enemies of the king. When assassins attack her home on her sixteenth birthday, she must flee to the king's court - a beautiful but lethal nest of poison, plots and danger, overseen by an entrenched patriarchy. Can Kalothia navigate this most worldly of places to find her own role? What if she must choose between her country and her heart?
Sas is a WAAPA graduate with 8 years experience in bookshops, specialising in Children's and Young Adult fiction. She reads fantasy when she gets the chance but you'll also find her curled up with classic literature and Silver Screen star biographies. She loves getting kids excited about new adventures and is so enthusiastic when giving recommendations that she sometimes gets tongue-tied.
A coming of age story tackling entrenched patriarchy with a very subtle fantasy kick. Kalothia was bad-ass, quick-witted and refused to be dismissed just because she's a woman. This mystery, accompanied by a vicious betrayal and a hunky body guard, is a delight.
Written with enough detail to engage but not enough to weigh you down, it was a breeze to read.
