For architects, designing adaptive reuse projects for buildings originally constructed for religious purposes is a challenging task. Different approaches to transforming historic structures often spark intense debate. The three projects examined in this issues special feature on the future of preservation illustrate different interpretations of the principles set forth in the Charter of Krakow (2000), a document aimed at establishing common ground.
