A thoughtful and in-depth analysis of the evolution of conflict over the past 70 years. This book gives an understanding of why some nations win and others lose during war.
The Industrial Revolution is often studied in regards to the major global shift it caused, however in depth local histories of the places that drove this shift is rarely explored exclusively. 'Lancastrians' addresses this disparity by soley focusing on the historical identities present in North-West England, and how this has had social and economic ramifications both during the industrial revolution and onwards into the present day.
Such an interesting approach to discussing and introducing geopolitics. Marshall segments his book to focus on the geographical histories of individual nations, giving inisights into how border changes influence power dynamics and reminds us how quickly things can change. Extremely relevant in the wake of modern conflicts, but also an accessible yet intellectual work infused with wit and character.
A celebration of life, flavour and everything in between. Tucci is raw, honest, wistful, and hilarious all in equal measure. You'll be left craving a second helping by the end!
We all have problems, and this book is the universal and blaringly simple answer: a compassionate voice of reason. Even though I couldn’t relate to those who wrote to Strayed’s ‘Sugar’ column, their grievances never failed to destroy me. Strayed’s intelligence, experience and depth of understanding made me wiser and grateful for the advice. It’s the tiny, beautiful things that make us fall in love with a book, and you will be moved by this whether you want to be or not.
